About Me

I'm a dad, a Marine, a software developer, and a bicycle tourist.

I was raised and still live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I work at Launch Scout, a business consultancy specialzed in custom software development that I co-founded in 2009.

After high school and a short stint at the University of Cincinnati I enlisted in the Marines and served as an Aviation Support Equipment Technician attached to the Flight Line Division of VMFA-122. I served mostly in the continental US but was deployed to the US Naval Base at Roosevelt Roads and participated in a NATO exercise while deployed to Bodø, Norway.

After the Marines I was hired as a Customer Service Agent (baggage handler/ramp agent) for Delta Air Lines and had another slightly longer stint at UC. After two years I worked my way into Technical Operations as a Mechanic's Helper (non-licensed aircraft mechanic).

Shortly thereafter I began playing hockey recreationally. During a game I broke my collarbone. I was sat behind a desk and charged with organizing aircraft tooling. IBM 386 workstations had just started popping up around the company. So I taught myself Visual Basic and database programming in dBASE IV.

Eventually, my code writing skills became more valuable than my aircraft maintenance skills. I was tasked with writing Key Performance Indicators (KPI) reports. Much to my chagrin, when it was decided my reports were to be used system wide their development was assigned to a business analyst and I was soon back in my old role of aircraft maintenance; often soaked in Skydrol with my ROYCO 22MS grease stained hands longing for the keyboard.

I decided to return to UC and this time earned a degree in Computer Science with a minor in French. Upon graduating I was hired by Cincinnati Children's Hospital as a Software Developer. My boss accepted an invitation to host a local group of XP developers. There I met the colleagues with whom I would co-found Launch Scout but not before moving on to SCRIP-SAFE where I helped develop the first commercial Electronic Transcript service.

After working as a freelance developer for a while and launching a personal finance app, called BudgetSketch. I also co-founded CincyCoworks, the city's first coworking space. We founded Launch Scout in 2009, as "Gaslight Software" in the Cincinnati office of Columbus, Ohio based software consultancy, EdgeCase.
