Agilo.us, the name, was my failed suggestion as a new name for the Cincinnati eXtreme Prgrammers’ Group (XP-Cinci) whose members selected the Cincinnati Agile Round Table (or CART) instead. Since the domain was too short to leave lying around, and since I hated the fact that fellow tweeps had to type 14 characters to ping me on Twitter (booksmartbilly), and coupled with a half a million other changes I was planning to make in my life, it seemed like the timing was perfect!

Agilo.us itself is a product, for better or worse, of me, Bill Barnett. Aside from four years in the Marine Corps spent mostly in Beaufort, SC, I have enjoyed living life close to family and friends in the Cincinnati, OH area.

I have been a groundskeeper, busboy, cook, Marine, baggage handler, cabin service agent, mechanic, toolroom attendant, supply attendant, and, most recently and logically, software developer. I am currently a free lance software developer building Web applications in PHP and Ruby. I founded OINK-PUG where I remain an active member, while doing so at CART and the Cincinnati Ruby Brigade as well.

If my life has had a recurring theme to this point it has been one of a late starter. I love hockey but never played the game until age 30. I finally married at 36, earned my bachelor’s degree at 40, and became a father at 43. Keeping with the theme, my current “projects” are debt elimination, retirement savings, and teaching my daughter not to make the mistakes I’ve made. My gut tells me these will be my last projects of any significance!

As mentioned, I enjoy playing hockey, traveling, fine dining, bourbon and wine consumption et je parle un peu de français!
